Brine Street Studio: This project was completed in 1999, and was a collaboration with photographer Ned Pratt. I had my architecture studio on the second floor, and Ned had his photography studio on the first floor. there was always something interesting going on, like fashion shoots or food photography. We shared some facilities, and it was a wonderful place to work. Ned has since occupied the entire building, which was at one time a bakery on Brine Street. We left traces of the past wherever we could, but we could not save the old roof. This was completely rebuilt using exposed wood trusses with insulation above plywood sheathing. Many components, such as for the balcony guard rail were constructed using off the shelf galvanized metal components with green 2" x 4" lumber that was bolted in place and permitted to air dry. Even the tables in the studios were made in this way, from green 2" x 4"'s. For more photos, scroll to the right... |
